so after our extended stay at Charles De Gaul airport we finally arrived into Copenhagen airport and were met by our friend Thomas.
Greg and I met Thomas in Thailand in 1987 and he came to live with us for a while in 1992 working at RDH as part of his medical studies. At the end of his stay we met his then girlfriend Marianne. Early last year Thomas and Marianne visited us with their two lovely children, Savannah and Johannes. So when we came to planning our itinerary we knew Denmark had to be at the top of our list!
I thought that starting in Denmark would be smart as it can get very cold. However, on the day we arrived, it was quite mild and as we drove along the highway to Roskilde the sun came out and made the gorgeous autumn leaves glow, and it felt quite magical! We were very, very tired but Thomas recommended staying awake to get on top of our jetlag. We had a delicious lunch at Thomas & Marianne's house (Thomas bakes his own yummy bread!) then set off to explore the ancient city of Roskilde which is just a few minutes walk from Thomas's house. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, and Bella declared herself in love with Denmark! Thomas made us delicious pizzas then we collapsed into bed. Lying vertical felt positively sublime!
However jetlag does unfortunately take a while to under control, so we all found we woke during the night despite being very comfortable. The next day it was cold, wet and a little windy - so different from the day before! Greg had some work to finish so Bella, Liam and I set off to walk the 3.5km down to the Roskilde Viking Museum which was quite fascinating. Then we walked back into town to the train station and caught the train into the city and found the Planatarium. This would be quite fascinating if you could read Danish, however the handout with the English translation was very light on - two lines to cover five or six paragraphs of Danish, we felt we were missing out a little! The highlight here was the 3D Imax movie on the stars and the solar system, followed by a dragon movie, which we enjoyed. Then we successfully took the train back to Roskilde. You always feel good when you get the trains right!

At Charles De Gaulle Airport..
our trip started pretty brilliantly. Greg got home an hour before we had to leave and frantically did some last minute gardening, finishing 1.5 seconds before we had to go to the airport! There were some minor issues - I'd left out a pair of jeans, socks and sweatshirt for Greg but neglected to include a t-shirt and jocks... he was able to fish them out of his backpack before we checked in. I thought it was hilarious and Bella's intense embarrassment made it even funnier!
Jetstar impressed me by checking our luggage all the way through to Copenhagen and departing on time, despite the late storm! We arrived into Changi airport and found our way onto Air France with no problems. I'd booked us bulk head seating so we had slightly more leg room than if we'd been in regular seating - the best option for us as Bella is too young for emergency exit seats! It wasn't too bad for such a long flight and the wine was pretty good!
Arriving into Paris we had a tight connection for our flight to Copenhagen, and there was some drama putting the stairs onto the aircraft, which meant we had to walk VERY fast to gate 49. We got there...and found we were at the wrong gate. I had mis-read the board on arrival and in fact we were at gate 26. I'm not quite sure how this happened as I double checked with the helpful Air France guy hanging around the arrival board. Anyway Gate 26 was the exact opposite end of the terminal and even though we RAN we arrived as the flight was closed.
Luckily they were able to put us onto the next flight, so we are just hanging around the airport using our 15 minutes of free wifi!! Next post from Copenhagen...
